Trio of Year 7 Pupils WIN April’s Community Hero Award

Holly Wastell, Charlotte Sevindi-Lima  and Izzy Spanswick

A pool lane set aside for three young local swimmers on a charity fundraising mission resulted in £175 being donated to Sport Relief.

The trio of Year 7 pupils Holly Wastell, who attends St Albans Girls’ School, and friends Charlotte Sevindi-Lima and Izzy Spanswick, both students at Sandringham School, swam at Westminster Lodge, during a recent swimathon.

Holly’s mum, Marianne, praised staff at the sports centre, at the base of Holywell Hill, for being “so accommodating” during the event. She said that as a result of “all the media around Sport Relief ”, the girls asked Westminster if a lane could be reserved for their sponsored swim.

Holly, Charlotte and Izzy completed 414 lengths in two hours and raised £175 for Sport Relief.

The girls were exhausted afterwards but said, “We are so happy we could contribute in some way towards such a good cause because it is for people less fortunate than ourselves.” Marianne said: “Staff were more than happy to help. I was very impressed with how lovely the team were at Westminster Lodge and how encouraging they were to the girls.”
